Rescuer Sings Lullaby to Baby as Migrants Brought on Board Ocean Viking Ship

As the Ocean Viking ship came to the aid of a group of migrants in the Mediterranean on January 27, one of the rescuers sang a lullaby to calm a baby that was among the group.

The European Organization for the Rescue of Lives at Sea, which operates Ocean Viking, said that “keeping people calm to avoid panic is paramount to safe operations. Sometimes, it just requires some kindness.”

In this footage of the rescue, a man can be heard singing the French lullaby Dodo, l’enfant do.

Up to January 27, Ocean Viking had conducted five nighttime operations in less than 72 hours, and had 407 migrants on board. A handful aboard were airlifted off before it was announced the following day that those remaining – 216 men, 38 women, and 149 children – would disembark in Taranto, Italy.
