Rescuers Save Six of Seven Orcas Stranded on Argentinian Beach

Authorities and volunteers were able to save six out of seven orcas that became stranded on a beach in Argentina’s Buenos Aires province on Monday, September 16, thanks to the fast alert of officials by local residents, according to reports.

Locals noticed the seven orcas at Mar Chiquita early Monday morning and alerted authorities.

Environmentalists from the Mundo Marino Foundation were on site soon after, as part of an operation that was coordinated by the Argentine Naval Prefecture.

The rescuers included firefighters, naval officers, park rangers, and other municipal personnel, as well as local volunteers. They preserved the orcas with water and managed to get six of the seven back to sea. The seventh died at the scene. Credit: Mundo Marino Foundation via Storyful
