Residential Building in Israel Catches Fire as Airstrikes Target Ashkelon

Israeli police on November 12 said they responded to a fire in Ashkelon, close to the border with Gaza, following an airstrike.

More than 100 missiles were reportedly fired from Gaza into Israel, according to Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

The Ashkelon Municipality announced that it was opening public shelters in response to the airstrikes.

The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Hamas was responsible for the attacks. The Israel Defense Forces said they had begun strikes on “terror targets in the Gaza Strip” in response.

Earlier in the day, thousands of people attended the funerals of seven fighters with the al-Qassam Brigades killed the day before during an Israeli special forces operation in the Khan Younis neighborhood of Gaza. One Israeli officer was killed and a second was wounded during the incident, reports said. Credit: Israel Police via Storyful
