Volcanic Ash Billows From Indonesia's Mount Merapi

Ash and smoke continued to spew from Mount Merapi in central Java on Monday, March 13, following an eruption on Saturday which forced authorities to halt tourism and mining activities in the area.

Footage recorded by BPPTKG, the Indonesian geological disaster institute, shows the mountain on Monday.

Local media reported that local villages were affected by ash rain on Monday, with residents asked to wear masks due to poor air quality.

Mount Merapi previously erupted in 2020 and is the most active of Indonesia’s 130 volcanos.
