Residents in a small village in Nottinghamshire will open their gardens to the public to raise funds. Neighbours will put 17 gardens on show in East Bridgford on Sunday, July 7, with the annual event having raised over £15,000 since its first edition in 2019.

Visitors will also be able to see a smallholding, visit a bee farm, and enjoy wandering around Springdale Wood. Entry is £5, while children can get in for free.

The proceeds will go towards Nottinghamshire Hospice, as well as local projects. Alec Hampson is one of the original committee members who set up the open gardens five years ago.

He said: "We've been going for a number of years and the objective is to let everybody see the good work, passion, and great ideas that everyone puts into their garden, while also raising a bit of money. We've raised many thousands of pounds over the years and we typically donate half of it to the hospice and then spend the other half on a variety of projects around the village.

"During Covid, we did a virtual edition of the open gardens which attracted a lot of donations and interest from across the globe." Visitors will be given a comprehensive guide, enabling them to plan their route around the village, with 11 new gardens being included in the event this year.

Refreshments will be available at the Scout Hut in the centre of the village at their new headquarters on Butt Field and a free prize competition will also be available for children. Some gardeners will also be selling art or plants, the organisers have said.

Parking will also be available and tickets can be purchased on the day, or in advance at ebogardens.co.uk.
