Residents Survey Damage in Southern Maine After Storm

A “rapidly intensifying” storm pummeled the northeast on October 16 and 17, downing trees and cutting power to thousands in Maine, local media reported.

The National Weather Service said the “quick-hitting” nor’easter “rapidly” gained strength and brought heavy rain and strong winds to the region.

As of about 3.30 pm on Thursday, 149,349 Central Maine Power customers were without electricity, according to Central Maine Power’s outage map. Other utility companies in the area were also reporting thousands of customers affected by outages.
