'Rest in peace beautiful angel' - readers send messages of love to family of Xielo Maruziva after body discovery

Readers said they were "heartbroken" and sent messages of love and support to the family of Xielo Maruziva after a body was found in the search for the missing toddler. Xielo fell into the water in Aylestone Meadows, Leicester on February 18.

The body was found on Thursday morning in the area of Aylestone Meadows near the river after work was carried out. Formal identification is yet to take place but the coroner has been informed and Xielo’s family are being supported by specialist officers, Leicestershire Police said.

On our Facebook page, readers said their thoughts were with Xielo's family. They said that they hoped being able to lay the little boy to rest would bring some comfort to his relatives.

Gareth Lanning said: "I know nothing can take away the family's pain of losing their child. I'm glad the child has been found and I hope this brings the family some comfort and they can give him a burial. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time."

Sophie Cameron-Osborn commented: "Bless the family and Xielo so glad family finally have some closure and time to say goodbye. Thoughts are with you all" while Christine Gascoigne wrote: "Such sad news to read, so glad he's been found & can now be laid to rest. Thoughts & prayers go out to Xielo's family at this extremely sad & difficult time.

"Thoughts r also with those who found him. Heaven has gained a handsome little soul. Rest in paradise xielo. Xx"

Gemma Chamberlain said: "So so sad, but at least his parents now have closure and can lay him to rest. Thoughts go out to the family at such a heartbreaking time."

Amanda Davies said: "At least they have finally found him and the family can say their goodbyes, the not knowing what happened to him for so long must have been horrendous. Sending thoughts to his family" while Alison Jordon said: "So sad to hear this this afternoon. My thoughts and prayers go out to the parents. Rest in peace beautiful angel."

Commenting on the Leicestershire Live website, 01Steveo said: "Rip Xielo, your parents can put you to rest now xx" and whatuexpect wrote: "Least the family now have closure and can arrange his final resting place, hope he can now rest in peace."

Police said workers at the site were also being given support and many readers were also thinking of them after the devastating discovery. Sylvia Luparia said: "RIP you beautiful little man, my heart felt sympathies go to his family may you now lay your beautiful boy to rest.

"Heaven will gain a beautiful angel. And my thoughts also go to the person/people who found him I can't imagine how they must be feeling."

Police have thanked everyone involved in the search for Xielo, as well as the community and wider members of the public.

Assistant Chief Constable Michaela Kerr said: “This is devastating news and our thoughts are with Xielo’s family. We are so sorry to bring them this news which we were all dreading and our full support is being provided to them at this most difficult time."
