A brand new burger restaurant has been grilled for its controversial choice of wallpaper in the ladies' loos - which poses questions such as 'Why can't I be thinner?'.

The up-and-coming burger diner, Almost Famous in Leeds, West Yorkshire, has been forced to remove the design, which featured a women's potential insecurities.

The wallpaper features statements including ‘I need a nose job,’ and ‘Does my tan look streaky’, and has caused a backlash among diners, prompting an urgent paint job.

Food writer Helen Greaves brought the designs to the public's attention by posting a snap of the loos on her blog, which the headline: ‘Fries with your misogyny, madam?’

She wrote: ‘Your eyes do not deceive you. It's a list of women’s potential insecurities, written on a toilet wall.

‘What could motivate someone to do this?

‘What about the people who are affected and as a result feel awful about themselves and whichever part of their body Almost Famous has reminded them they’re not satisfied with?’

The writer has also accused the food chain, which has sister outlets in Manchester and Liverpool, as having an ‘anti-female’ menu, with the likes of 'b*tch juice' and 'sl*t sauce' making an appearance.

In response to her remarks, Almost Famous has since tweeted: ‘So, about our female toilets...’ with an image of a staff member painting over the wall.

Bosses have also apologised for any offence caused.

A statement on their website said: ‘The designs in our female toilets have caused upset and we are sorry.

‘Almost Famous is a young company, we take risks, but we got this one wrong.

‘We want to stress our intentions weren't to offend. The designs were created by a female employee to voice her own and other women's insecurities. We accept we didn’t communicate this properly.

‘The designs are currently being removed from all of our restaurants.’

The removal of the designs will be welcomed by angry web users who posted comments on Helen Greaves’ blog.
