The Results Are in: ‘Cobra Kai’ Fans Watched 16.7 Billion Minutes of the Show in 2022

Cobra Kai just became a black belt in streaming achievements, according to these new numbers released by Nielsen.

Following the show's fifth season premiere last September, the martial arts dramedy racked up some major views from fans, whether they be new watchers or longtime adorers of the show. According to Nielsen, the series was watched for over 16.7 billion minutes (yes, billion) in 2022.

Overall, Cobra Kai was the fourth most-watched original streaming series of 2022, and it seems that the show's distributor, Netflix, dominated the top of the list.

Ahead of the Karate Kid-inspired series was Stranger Things (no surprise there), which took the top spot with over 52 billion minutes viewed. Following the sci-fi hit was Ozark, which accumulated 31.3 billion minutes and Wednesday, which garnered 18.6 billion and placed third. Other titles in the top ten were no shocker either, like Bridgerton, Virgin River and The Crown.

In addition, on the list that included non-original streaming titles, Cobra Kai still placed 14th, impressively. But, the top of the list featured long-running shows like NCIS and Grey's Anatomy. Meanwhile, kid-friendly favorites like Cocomelon and Encanto (the only film to make either list) also made the cut.

While Cobra Kai fans are clearly dedicated to the series, it has unfortunately been renewed for a sixth, and final, season by Netflix. The streaming service announced the news just last week with a teaser video: “The final season” it declared. And although no release date has been set yet, the clip announced that new episodes would be “coming soon.”

Cobra Kai fans may be ready to fight for more episodes, but it's clear that even when the show ends, they'll still be streaming it in droves.
