Retail blow as RNLI announce charity shop closure in Ayrshire town
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) has announced the closure of its charity shop in Troon.
Ayrshire Live can reveal that the shop, in the town’s Ayr Street, is to close next month following a “full and thorough review” by the organisation.
The RNLI said the closure was due to the “challenging financial climate” in which they are currently operating.

A statement on the RNLI Troon Lifeboat Facebook page read: “Following a full and thorough review by the RNLI, our RNLI shop on Ayr Street, Troon will close on the 19 October 2024.
“Retail is an important source of income for the RNLI and, as the charity continues to be impacted by the challenging financial climate, we need to ensure all areas of our work, including our retail activity, are operating as efficiently as possible.”
Ayrshire Live can also reveal that plans are in place in an effort to try to provide a pop-up retail offering to the town, which has a close association with the RNLI due to its lifeboat station and crew.
Julie Matthews, Volunteer Shop Manager at RNLI Shop Troon, also said: “I would like to thank all the shop volunteers past and present for all their efforts in RNLI Shop Troon, and we look forward to continuing our journey as we explore pop-up retail offerings for Troon and the surrounding area."
Until its closure, RNLI Shop Troon will be open: Tuesday 11.00-14.00, Wednesday 10.00-16.00, Thursday 10.00-16.00, Friday 10.00-16.00, Saturday 11.00-14.00.
