Retail workers are truly the unsung heroes of our everyday existence.

Anyone who's ever worked a shift in retail or any customer service role knows the stress of dealing with customers who seem to lack common sense. From cunning shoppers looking for a discount to irate Karens demanding the manager when you're just doing your job, it's a hard grind on the shop floor.

But it's not all bad; there are some diamonds among the customers, and occasionally you experience a moment so bizarre, it becomes a story you'll tell for years. One woman has taken to social media to share such an incident in a video that's gone viral, revealing she often thinks about this strange customer encounter long after leaving her retail job.

In her TikTok video, Dani tells the story of how a woman came in to return a hat she claimed was "never worn". The situation seemed normal, and Dani began processing the refund until she inspected the hat and noticed the problem.

She joked: "I got the hat out of the bag and it was covered in Greek-style yoghurt. I know what you're thinking. How did you know it was Greek-style yoghurt? I knew it was Greek-style yoghurt because the pot was on her fist. Upside down. It was like a family pot, it was quite big, it consumed the majority of her fist. She stood there holding the pot of yoghurt over her fist."

Mystified by the peculiar scenario, Dani tried to explain that the hat had indeed been "obviously worn" with yoghurt stains on it, yet the customer persisted in claiming, "Oh no, I've never used it."

Even though it was evident that the woman had used the hat, Dani decided she "couldn't be bothered" to debate the matter and opted to go through with the refund regardless. She disposed of the soiled hat, struck it from the records, and resolved to leave the incident unspoken of.

Recounting the tale, she said: "I just returned it and scraped the yoghurt-filled hat into the bin and wrote it off the system and never spoke of it again. She left, and she didn't leave any yoghurt residue on the shop floor, which I was quite happy about."

Dani's recount of the surreal refund situation had viewers in stitches, sparking a wave of comments as other retail workers chimed in with their own outlandish experiences.

One shopper regaled the tale of a lady attempting to return worn-out walking boots, embedded with mud and even bearing holes at the bottom. On checking, it turned out she'd owned them for two years.

An additional tale surfaced about a customer who came in to return a vegetable peeler due to claimed faults, bringing along her own potato to demonstrate. The unusual demonstration left a lasting impression.
