The creator of the original game, Taneli Armanto, has teamed up with independent Finnish game studio Rumilus Design to produce the revamped game which enables players to 'rewind' the snake after crashing to continue the game.

According to its maker, Snake Rewind will include 'cool visual effects, sounds and innovative new features' such as a 'fruit store' where boosters and other items can be purchased and upgraded using fruit collected during the game.

Players will also be able to compete against friends and other players to try and top the high score lists.

Snake was first released on the Nokia 6110 back in 1997 and after featuring on over 400 million Nokia handsets, it became one of the most popular games in history.

The game will be free to download, but will also include in-app purchases.
