Reunion between Tom Brady, Patriots reportedly 'not looking good'

The impending separation (or reunion) between Tom Brady and the New England Patriots is going to be the biggest storyline of the NFL offseason, with every whisper in the wind gaining newsworthiness and traction regardless of who hears it.

Six-time Super Bowl champion quarterbacks simply don’t become available on the open market very often, regardless of whether or not the player in question is turning 43 years old by the time the season starts.

After 20 years as a member of the Patriots organization, rumours have swirled that the team is ready to move forward without Brady at the helm and according to the latest report, the team has yet to reach out to the four-time Super Bowl MVP.

According to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald, a source said the chances that Brady will be under center for the team for another year is “not looking good.”

As hard as it may be to picture the Patriots without Brady, and Brady without the Patriots, the further along his free agency gets, the more likely it becomes that the two sides are willing to go their separate ways for the coming season.

Bill Belichick’s imposed team building model of “The Patriot Way” has always revolved around the ruthless pursuit of constant improvement, personal relationships be damned. The team rolled to a 12-4 record and an 11th straight division title last year but failed to make any progress in the playoffs, bowing out to the Tennessee Titans.

It stands to reason that Belichick and the decision makers in the Patriots organization view the idea of going forward with the oldest player in the league handling every snap as a diminishing return, and would prefer to go with a different — and cheaper — alternative.
