A man has wowed social media users by transforming his council house doors from dull to dazzling – and it only cost him around £5 to do.

Martin, who goes by the username martindiy on TikTok, is famed for his practical DIY tips that show how to revamp homes without breaking the bank. He recently shared his latest project where he upgraded his "awful council house box doors" into stylish modern ones.

To complete this makeover, Martin only needed some paint and a bit of time. He's thrilled with the outcome, saying he's "over the moon" with how it turned out, especially since the entire transformation was done on a budget.

In a detailed tutorial video, Martin explained that he began by removing the doors and handles. Next, he marked the doors to determine where to cut lines to create a panelled effect.

He explained: "We're going for a centre panel-type door on this one, so we're now going to do the horizontal cuts. The good thing about this is, because it's already a fitted door, we can get the partitions perfect."

After completing the cutting, Martin sanded the doors slightly before painting them black, resulting in a more contemporary and sophisticated appearance.

The video has since gone viral, astonishing viewers. It has garnered over 45,000 likes and plenty of positive comments, with many saying the doors look a lot better now.

One cheeky commenter said: "Can you come and do mine please? I'm somewhere near Newcastle." Another replied: "Ok, maybe if I ask Santa nicely he will buy me a router. These look great. My landlord wouldn't mind me doing this."

A third chimed in with praise, stating: "Loving these comments. Why buy a new door when you can make perfectly good doors better? People are just too lazy. Well done, I say."

Before you do make any changes to your council home, it's important to seek proper permission from authorities first. Martin has done just that, which means he should avoid any complaints further down the line.
