The best UK staycations for green spaces have been revealed in new research — and, unsurprisingly, Cumbria, North Yorkshire and Wales all topped the list.

"From the lakes and mountains of the Lake District, to the Devonshire coastline, the UK can be truly dreamy and idyllic, but where exactly are the UK's most beautiful escapes?" says the team at Daffodil Hotel in the study.

"We've ranked over 70 of the UK's most beautiful towns and villages on factors such as number of attractions, beauty spots and mountain ranges, to bring you the ultimate list of picturesque and peaceful places to escape to in 2020 and beyond."

In the heart of Cumbria, Keswick has 34 mountains and hills, 20 areas of green spaces and 24 beauty spots for ramblers to enjoy. It's the perfect place for a weekend in the countryside.

With 29 mountains and hills, the picture-perfect seaside town of Whitby has long been a favourite with holidaymakers in the UK.

Taking the third spot is Ambleside — a charming small town in the Lake District. Historically in Westmorland, it marks the head of Windermere and is definitely worth adding to your must-visit list.
