London has been revealed as the most expensive place to buy a Big Mac in the UK.

The branch of McDonald’s in Ludgate Hill, City of London, charges £3.39 – 40p more than McDonald’s customers are paying in Edinburgh, Leicester and Clacton.

There were suprising inconsistencies in the price of the flagship burger at 50 outlets throughout the country, analysis by the Bonus Code Bets.co.uk found.

A range of prices were found in the capital alone, with Big Macs sold for £3.29 in Holborn and £3.19 in Holloway, Covent Garden and Westminster.

Along with Ludgate Hill, the other priciest place in the UK for a Big Mac was Stevenage.

The cheapest burgers were available for £2.99 in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Clacton, West Bromwich, Wrexham, Mansfield and Leicester.

The average price customers pay for a Big Mac in the UK across all the restaurants was £3.17, the research found.

McDonald's put the price difference down to the different ways franchises operate.

A spokeswoman said: “We offer guidance around pricing, but ultimately our franchisees decide on those which are set, based on a number of factors including ongoing operational costs depicted by each site.

“We and our franchisees pride ourselves on providing good quality food, at affordable prices up and down the country and work to keep differences to a minimum.”
