The pandemic, along with climate change, Brexit, digitalisation and workplace inclusion has shaped the UK’s top jobs, new data revealed.

Continued disruption to the workplace and an increasing “war for talent” has seen a number of HR and talent focused roles featured among the fastest-growing jobs in the country, as an "astonishing" two-thirds of workers in the UK say they are considering changing jobs in 2022, LinkedIn said.

As Brexit leads to new rules around customs, imports and exports, customs officer was the fastest growing job in the country, while import specialist came in at number three.

Machine learning engineer was in second place, while business development representative and chief HR office rounded off the top five.

“We’re seeing a raft of new job opportunities being created as businesses continue to adapt to the pandemic and broader macroeconomic factors,” said Janine Chamberlin, head of LinkedIn UK.

Meanwhile, candidates are being increasingly selective about the roles they apply for and the companies they move to - with workplace flexibility, attention to employee wellbeing and culture being the critical factors in attracting top talent, Chamberlin added.

The report also found men more likely to be hired into fastest-growing roles, which the report said was “a worrying gender imbalance”.

For seven of the 20 roles, men accounted for at least 70% of hires. Women accounted for more than 70% of chief HR officer and diversity and inclusion manager hires.

While customs roles were fairly balanced, engineering roles - which are shaping the future of technology and likely to continue to grow in the future - were dominated by men and accounted for a quarter of the list.

Research also found more than two-thirds (67%) of people in the UK are considering changing roles in 2022, with improved salary (37%) and a better work/life balance (29%) being the factors most likely to make people move jobs.

Candidates are more picky: they now view 1.5 times as many jobs as they did in 2019 before applying.
