Revealed: The UK's favourite Quality Street... but are you getting enough in your tin?

The nation’s favourite Quality Street has been revealed but sweet fans are getting less than their fair share of the top pick, according to a new study.

The Purple One – a milk chocolate with a caramel and nut centre – is the UK’s favourite of the traditional festive treat, a study by CDA Kitchen Appliances showed.

It is closely followed by the praline-filled Green Triangle with the sticky Toffee Finger coming in a close third, a poll of 1,500 people revealed.

However, data compiled by the company showed tins of Quality Street contain a higher percentage of less popular sweets including Fudge, Coconut Éclair and the chocolate-free Toffee Penny.

The Strawberry Delight ranked fourth in the poll, followed by the Caramel Swirl.

A poll by Nestlé also claimed The Purple One is favoured by hungry Brits, however, they then ranked the numbers two to five as Strawberry Delight, The Green Triangle, Orange Crème and Caramel Swirl.

CDA then rated the five most common Quality Street’s in one tin as Fudge, Toffee Penny, Coconut Éclair, Orange Crème and Strawberry Delight.

A spokesman for the company said: “The coconut éclair, with eight chocolates, was one of the most common in the tin, yet this was eleventh on the nation’s favourite list only topping the new and controversial honeycomb crunch.

“Two chocolates that you get more of in the tin, our poll suggests you don’t actually want.

“The Green Triangle and Caramel Swirl, two of the nation’s most favourite chocolates, are actually the scarcest chocolates according to what we found in our tin.”

Researchers also broke down favourites by age and found that the Green Triangle was most popular among 18 to 34-year-olds while anyone older favoured The Purple One.
