We are looking back at 2022 as it draws to a close and while the long, hot summer was in full swing, plenty was happening around the borough.
As the knock-on effects of Russia's invasion into Ukraine were being felt in the pockets of residents in the borough, one local petrol station was determined to provide the cheapest fuel in the country.
Limes Service Station drops petrol prices for as long as they can
Limes Service Station on Manchester Road in Walkden has dropped its prices to 1.69.9p for unleaded and 185.9p for diesel.
This was significantly down from 187.9p and 194.9p a litre respectively.
Turton School in Bromley Cross was named and shamed by train operator Northern as its students were listed among the worst for travelling without a ticket.

“Everyone has a responsibility to buy a ticket before they travel. Unfortunately, some students think that rule doesn’t apply to them – and routinely fare evade on our services," claimed Mark Powles, commercial and customer director at Northern.
One of Bolton's many visits from the stars of the screen also happened in July.

Georgia Taylor, better known to Coronation Street fans as Toyah Battersby, was seen on Le Mans Crescent as the soap filmed a courtroom scene.
The scenes saw Toyah stand trial for murder in the historic courthouse.
Another big high street name announced it would be closing down its store in Bolton town centre to some shoppers' dismay.

Paul Davies from Halliwell used to shop at Argos there "several times a year".
“We do all of our Christmas shopping there, we probably spend around £400 buying gifts for family and friends," he added.
Amir Khan, on the other hand, was just opening up - as he showed off his beautiful new home in Manchester.

The former boxer and his family seemed set on a move to London but after Amir was robbed at gunpoint for his watch in the capital city, it seemed the couple had a change of plans.
Bolton town centre turned all Hollywood for an evening as The Light Cinema rolled out the red carpet for the cast and crew of BBC's horror series, Red Rose.

Creators of the series, Bolton-born twins Paul and Michael Clarkson, not only set the series in the hometown but drew inspiration from the people and places they knew growing up to form the hit series.
“I want Bolton teens to watch this and feel like their lives are cinema-worthy, like they are film-worthy, because they are," Michael said.
Bolton Wanderers announced that the club had partnered with a Sporting Group International in order to sell the naming rights for its stadium.

The University of Bolton Stadium has changed guise multiple times since it was opened in Horwich in 1997, with many in the borough still calling it by its original name - The Reebok Stadium.
Wanderers CEO Neil Hart described the partnership as an "excellent opportunity" and thanked the University of Bolton for its ongoing support.
An 11-year-old boy was back in business at his sweet stall after an official complaint was made to the council.

However, Bolton Council gave him the all clear to continue his stall.
In August the borough waved goodbye to a much-loved fish and chip shop.
Rigby's Chippy to close after 40 years in business
Margaret Rigby called time after a 40-year stint in the shop with sadness due to her ill health.
The chippy once received national attention after appearing on BBC's Top Gear.
