Review: Soaper Duper Body Wash

Delicious body wash is the foundation of feel-good.

Why be municipal about cleanliness when you can be sparkling? And what is a blissful accompaniment to a clean body? A clean conscience, of course. The knowledge that in scrubbing and scenting yourself you are not simultaneously polluting the planet.

Let us worship at the innovative entrepreneurial altar of Marcia Kilgore. Her brain birthed the brands Bliss, Soap & Glory, Fitflop and the recent industry disruptor, Beauty Pie. You’d think she might put her feet up. But no.

Soaper Duper body and bath products come in seven scents, from nutty to floral and zingy. Remarkably cheap, they are also free from everything: parabens, microbeads, sulphates and the rest. The ingredients are 95 per cent natural and the generous bottles are made of 100 per cent recycled plastic and are recyclable, taking their irreproachable pale green from the lids of semi-skimmed milk bottles, repurposed. So far, so virtuous.

That said, the experience of the stuff is as luxurious as any Parisian fashion house might aim for. The shower gel is thick and pale and weighty so you needn’t use much. The scents are clearly crafted. The new ‘nourishing coconut’ is a tropical trip without being sugary, and harnesses the goodness of jojoba seed oil and aloe vera, while ‘super juicy passionfruit’ is incredibly optimistic, packed with citrus oils for a zesty turbocharge.

Soaper Duper works incredibly hard on every front without feeling po-faced or self-consciously virtuous. What’s not to like?
