A Rhyl pub has been granted permission to build a beer garden despite concerns about noise. Ellis's Bar applied to Denbighshire County Council’s licensing department, seeking permission for a variation in its licence.

The bar on Water Street previously had permission to provide "licensable activities" from 9am to 4am on Monday – Sunday. But the pub then applied for a variation allowing it to create a beer garden with provisions in place to avoid noise.

The council, though, received seven written objections to the plans concerned with the potential for noise, anti-social behaviour, and public nuisance. But following a licensing sub-committee meeting at Denbighshire’s Ruthin County Hall HQ, the committee has granted the pub permission to proceed with their plans, subject to additional conditions being agreed.

A licensing report said: “The applicant has stated there will be no music in the beer garden after 11 pm, and there will be CCTV/door staff monitoring the beer garden after 11 pm. A secondary door will also be fitted onto (the) beer garden to avoid the breakout of noise.”

North Wales Police, the fire service, and the council’s environmental health were consulted.
