Richard 'The Old Man' Harrison from Pawn Stars has died

Richard Harrison, known best as 'The Old Man' from the History Channel reality series Pawn Stars, has died at 77 after a battle with Parkinson's disease, his son and costar, Rick Harrison, announced Monday.

"Richard Benjamin 'The Old Man' Harrison passed away this morning surrounded by those he loved. He will be tremendously missed by our family, the team at Gold & Silver Pawn and his many fans the world over," he wrote. "He was my hero and I was fortunate to get a very cool 'Old Man' as my dad. That I got to share him with so many others and they got to see what a great family man he was is something I am grateful to have experienced with him."

Rick also posted a photo of his father from his Navy days on Instagram, and wrote: "Today I lost a friend, a father, a teacher and so much more. The Old Man lost his long battle with Parkinson's this morning. Love you Dad. See you on the other side."

Rick's son and Harrison's grandson, Corey, also paid tribute to his grandfather by posting an old photo on Instagram.

"I was lucky enough to spend 15 years of my life working with the old man. He wasn't just a grandfather, he was truly a best friend as well," he wrote. "I'm truly blessed to have had him as a mentor."

According to TMZ,which first reported his death, Harrison opened Gold & Silver Pawn in Las Vegas with Rick back in the early 1980s, and the business became a local destination after the History Channel started filming Pawn Stars at their shop. But he hadn't made many appearances on the show in the last few seasons.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend Richard 'The Old Man' Harrison, a beloved member of the HISTORY and Pawn Stars family," a spokesperson for the History Channel said in a statement. "He will be greatly missed for his wisdom and candor."
