Richard Hammond got 'chills' as he got back into car that nearly killed him

Richard Hammond has revealed he felt “chills” getting back into the car which once left him fighting for his life in a coma.

The Grand Tour star spent two weeks in a coma after crashing the Vampire dragster while filming for Top Gear in 2006.

But clips of him getting back behind the wheel of the vehicle were recently shared on his DriveTribe website.

Hammond appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about getting back behind the wheel of the car, confessing he didn't tell his wife he was doing it.

Presenter Susanna Reid asked if he had “chills”.

“I did a little bit,” he replied.

“I didn’t tell Mindy, my wife, I was going to do it. We snuck off and filmed it.”

Father-of-two Hammond suffered a head injury and there were reports that he had post-traumatic amnesia after the accident.

He previously indicated that he would not get in the car again.

The video of Hammond in the Vampire was shared on DriveTribe in January, and showed the star looking uncomfortable as he climbed inside.

The 52-year-old told fans that he could not recall getting out of the car after the crash, which apparently happened when he was driving at more than 300 mph.

He said in a way it was as if he was still in the vehicle.
