Richard Madeley blasted by GMB viewers over ‘patronising’ remark to Lioness hero Alessia Russo

Good Morning Britain viewers have criticised Richard Madeley over his “patronising” chat with Lionesses star Alessia Russo on Wednesday’s episode.

The 23-year-old was fresh from celebrating England’s Euro 2022 win on Sunday, after they beat Germany 2-1 in extra time.

However, fans were left unimpressed by Madeley’s chat after he made an “inappropriate” comment to Russo.

The 66-year-old began: “How are you feeling? It’s three days on now. If I was your dad and asked you that and said, ‘How are you feeling love?’ What would you say?”

The sports star, who scored in the Euros semi-final against Sweden, admitted she was “overwhelmed and exhausted” following their historic win, adding: “It’s something we have been waiting for in women’s football for a long time.”

They also noted that the former This Morning presenter appeared to keep interrupting the footballer before she had finished answering the previous question.

Safe to say viewers at home were not happy with Madeley’s line of questioning and took to Twitter to air their frustration about him using the word “love”, claiming it was one of the “most cringe things on TV”.

One penned: “Richard Madeley just said to Alessia Russo, ‘how you feeling love’? Good grief! How inappropriate. #GMB @GMB.”

“’If I was your Dad, and asked you that, what would you say?’ What is Richard on about?? Richard ‘who’s your daddy’ Madeley #GMB @AccidentalP (obviously)” another wrote.

An irritated GMB viewer weighed in: “Richard Madeley talking to Women’s footballers, is one of the most cringe things on TV.

“I feel for these ladies having to discuss a huge moment in their lives, with this clueless, patronising numpty. #GMB”.

“Watching #GMB on plus one and I’m watching the interview with Alessia Russo. How patronising is Madeley? He’s talking to these girls like they did well in a primary school play,” a social media user remarked.

It’s not the only time Madeley has found himself in hot water when interviewing one of the England team this week.

In fact, the presenter faced backlash when he was heard casually referring to Chloe Kelly as “Coco” as he thanked her for her time on Tuesday’s (2 August) show.

The ITV star later explained that “Coco” is the nickname he uses for his daughter, who is also named Chloe.
