Richard Madeley has been criticised for his line of questioning towards England footballer Alessia Russo.

Russo appeared on Good Morning Britain on 3 August to discuss England's historic win over Germany in the final of Euro 2022.

To begin the chat with Russo, GMB presenter Madeley said: “How are you feeling? It’s three days on now. If I was your dad and asked you that – ‘how are you feeling love’ – what would you say?”

His remark was immediately criticised by viewers on social media with one calling it "inappropriate" and another "painfully dreadful".

Many viewers also said that Madeley wouldn't have said the same thing to a man.

One GMB viewer wrote on Twitter: “Would he address a male footballer like that? Could he PLEASE stop being so patronising? She’s a European Cup winner, an elite sportsperson – not a primary school kid!”

Others also accused Madeley of being "patronising".

The latest criticism comes just days after Madeley was slated for calling Russo's England teammate Chloe Kelly "Coco" as that's what he calls his daughter.

Kelly, who scored England's winning goal in the final looked less than impressed with the remark but did continue with the interview.

She talked about her reaction to the win, saying: "It hasn't settled in yet. I think I'm just living in the moment. And not really looking at my phone too much because I'm living in the now and taking it all in."

Kelly also discussed her now iconic celebration where she takes her top off and running around in her sports bra: "I'm taking my shirt off, I'm going crazy because a male footballer they'd be doing exactly the same so as a woman why can't we."

Madeley's interviewing style has been continually criticised on Good Morning Britain, especially for his coverage of climate change protests and the recent rail strikes.
