Richard Osman reveals BBC show's camera kit was stolen and bizarrely returned
Richard Osman has shared a peculiar story from his time on Total Wipeout, recalling an occasion when the camera crew's kit was stolen, but then curiously returned within the day.
The presenter and author was a script editor for the BBC show between 2009 and 2011. Hosted by Richard Hammond and Amanda Byram, the show saw contestants attempting physical challenges in the hope of winning a cash prize.
Osman shared the story on his and Marina Hyde's podcast The Rest is Entertainment, saying that the crew showed up for work one day only to find all their equipment had gone missing.

"One day we turned up and every single bit of camera equipment had been stolen," Osman recalled. "We turned up at about 8am and the fixer – who was our sort of middle man – had told us that everything had been stolen.
"We go, 'Oh, okay. We probably need to hire some more stuff as we're insured.' And he goes, 'I'm not sure we are insured.'"
Osman added that they then asked the individual to source some new equipment so filming could continue.

"He said he'd have it within an hour," he continued. "All of a sudden, this equipment turned up and it was apparent that it was all the original equipment.
"Anyway, stuff like that would happen on that show."
Osman has also found fame with a co-presenting stint on Pointless, which he left in 2022, and Richard Osman's House of Games, which features a revolving cast of celebrities attempting to solve a variety of puzzles.
He is also now a published novelist, with his debut novel The Thursday Murder Club set to be adapted into a feature film.
