Rick Astley was in fine form when he headlined Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

Friday’s entertainment at the North Yorkshire seaside venue was a great double bill with the 80s icon supported by the Lightning Seeds. The fun opened with support from Ian Broudie’s band who performed hits Life of Riley, Lucky You and Change.

Although, it was the iconic football anthem Three Lions which had the most resonance ahead of Gareth Southgate’s side playing in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. Broudie and his band performed it as a ‘message of hope’ ahead of Saturday evening’s match against Switzerland.

Headline act Astley soon followed, opening his set with Never Gonna Stop from 2023 album Are We There Yet. This was followed by fan fave Together Forever.

Ever the showman, Astley had the crowd singing and dancing through his hits alongside covers from the likes of Chic and AC/DC. His cover of Sam Fender’s Seventeen Going Under was very well-received.

The humble performer also asked his adoring masses to show their appreciation for the crew who make big shows possible. He also joked about his band’s encounters with the famous seagulls of Scarborough.

Astley’s biggest hit, Never Gonna Give You Up, was undoubtedly, and unsurprisingly, the highlight of the evening. One and all, young and old, coming together to sing the pop banger.
