Everyone's favorite childhood actor Rick Moranis made a surprise appearance and offered a nostalgic blast from the past when he appeared in a Mint Mobile ad alongside Ryan.

Moranis has kept a relatively low-profile recently. He hasn’t made any appearances on film since the 2008 Canadian TV movie, Bob & Doug McKenzie's Two-Four Anniversary, which made his surprise cameo in the Mint Mobile ad the ideal throwback moment.

The Honey I Shrunk the Kids star first became famous when he appeared in 1984’s Ghostbusters alongside Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis.

Reynolds, who owns Mint Mobile and also appears in the ad, has had a busy quarantine. The actor is always active on Twitter, but lockdown has seen him posting on the app more frequently. He’s also starred in multiple ads for both Mint Mobile and his Gin brand, Aviation, showcasing his tongue in cheek comedy style.

The Mint Mobile ad has received lots of attention on social media, with people tweeting about how excited they are to see their childhood favorite in action again.

Reynolds has even responded to some of his favorite tweets, including one from Lee Barrett, the drummer of UK punk band Gallows, where he said “Honey, I shrunk the phone bill!” Reynold quipped, “Thank you! I wasn’t legally allowed to say that.”

In another Twitter exchange between Reynolds and producer Jay K. Cagatay, Reynolds admitted that he was so excited when Moranis agreed to be in the ad that, “Honestly, when he said yes, I wept.”

Another user acknowledged that it was slightly ironic that two of Canada’s most famous faces are helping to sell a mobile phone provider that’s only available in America.

Reynolds seemed to agree and said he’s trying to expand the network to his homeland.
