Comedian and actor Ricky Gervais has paid a touching but amusing tribute to the late Keith Chegwin, who has passed away at the age of 60.

Cheggers was known for his unpredictable antic on live TV, with his penchant to ad-lib whenever the mood suited him.

Tributes have come flooding in from the celeb world and across social media for the British television icon, but Gervais’ tweet will no doubt resonate with those familiar with his work and the series BBC Extras.

Having acted alongside with the former It’s A Knockout presenter, Gervais tweeted: ‘So sorry to hear about the death of the lovely & funny Keith Chegwin. RIP you National Treasure #PopKnobInFanny’

The explicit hashtag Gervais is of course referencing a scene the pair did on comedy series Extras. Chegwin starred in the first episode of season two, titled Orlando Bloom, playing himself.

In the side-splitting scene he and Andy Millman (Gervais) are sat alone, as Cheggers describes the intimate act of, ahem, love-making.

The numerous behind-the-scenes takes were even funnier than the final one we see in the show, so in case you’ve never seen it, take a look at it below.

Warning: It’s a bit NSFW.

A few years later, in 2011, they reunited when Chegwin appeared in two episodes and the Easter Special of Life’s Too Short – again playing the part of himself.

A host of famous names have taken to social media upon hearing the news of the entertainer’s death, including former show biz friends and colleagues.
