Ricky Gervais slams 'abusive' Donald Trump Jr. for 'socialist' Halloween tweet

JK Rowling and comic Ricky Gervais took to social media last night to lash out at President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., for a tweet that he posted about his daughter Chloe’s Halloween treats.

The businessman had shared a photo of the three year old, who was dressed as a policewoman, posing with her swag, writing alongside the image: “I’m going to take half of Chloe’s candy tonight & give it to some kid who sat at home.

“It’s never to early to teach her about socialism.”

The tweet was met with a mixed response; with some of Trump’s followers praising him for teaching his daughter how to share, with others poking fun at Trump’s reference to socialism as they pointed out that Chloe hadn’t “earned” her sweets.

Gervais was among those to find fault with Trump’s tweet, retweeting the original message and saying of Chloe: “Born into wealth but given no love. All he knows how to do is pass on the abuse. Very sad.”

He also retweeted other critics’ messages, with one reading: “Man who inherited money from his father, who inherited it from *his* father, has lessons on making it on your own.”

JK also shared her disdain, writing: “Fill her bucket with old candy left by her great-grandfather, then explain that she has more because she’s smarter than all the other kids.”

Others also slammed the family for using Chloe as “a political prop”, writing:

Gervais went on to retweet Trump for a second time, quipping: “Calm down everyone. He’s only joking. He’d never really teach her that sharing is a good thing.”

Trump Jr. has not acknowledged the backlash.
