RideLondon cyclist seriously injured after car drove down closed Essex road

An investigation is ongoing after a cyclist taking part in RideLondon was left with serious spinal injuries. A bike and a car collided in Fyfield on Sunday (May 26).

The incident, which happened in Ongar Road at around 10:25am, occurred after the car reportedly entered a road that had been closed to allow the RideLondon event to take place. The vehicle, believed to be a silver Ford Focus, then left the scene.

The cyclist sustained four fractures to their vertebrae. Essex Police said they believe there will have been a "significant number" of witnesses who could provide key information.
