Rihanna has announced she is taking some time to focus on "balance" after an "overwhelming" year.

The 31-year-old singer has had a particularly busy 12 months, continuing to grow her Fenty Beauty make-up brand, unveiling her first fashion brand and producing her first New York Fashion Week show for her lingerie line, Savage X Fenty.

Sharing a picture of herself on Instagram, Rihanna wrote next to it: "To all my friends/family/coworkers who I have yet to get back to in the past months...please forgive me.

"This year has been quite an overwhelming one, and I’m working on that ish called Balance. brb."

This year has also seen Rihanna star in a film alongside Donald Glover and release a photography book.

In September, she hosted her fifth annual diamond ball, in aid of the Clara Lionel Foundation.

The event, held at Cipriani Wall Street, supports the global relief and education foundation that Rihanna founded in 2012.

In May, the star revealed she had been living in north London for several months ahead of the launch of her Fenty line, which was created with French fashion house LVMH.

Her home, is reportedly a £16,000-a-week, seven-bedroom north London mansion, with its own gym, lawn and private chef.

It is believed that she is living with her boyfriend Saudi heir Hassan Jameel, whose family is worth $2.2 billion.
