Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Adele and Drake battle for AMA Artist of the Year Award 2016
Chart toppers are set to battle it out once again to be recognised for their hard slog over the year at the American Music Awards next month and the freshly announced nominations list has whet the appetite of their fans by breaking at least one record and pitting lovers against each other.
It’s been announced that rumoured couple Rihanna and Drake as well as Justin Bieber and Adele will go head to head to be named the Artist of the Year at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 20.
Selena Gomez, Beyonce, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Twenty One Pilots and Carrie Underwood will also compete with the quartet to scoop the prestigous award which was bestowed upon One Direction last year.
Adele, Biebs and RiRi have all been recognised in five categories but it’s Drake who wowed fans by smashing Michael Jackson’s record by being nominated the most times across the ceremony in a staggering 12 categories.
Well, maybe 11 and a half since the rapper and Rihanna share the Collaboration of the Year award nom for their hit ‘Work.’
Joe Jonas and Rachel Platten revealed the list on Monday – with Joe’s band DNCE up for Favorite Duo or Group – Pop/Rock and New Artist of the Year and Rachel in the running for Favorite Artist, Adult Contemporary.
Speaking about his nomination, Joe said: “You obviously make music because it’s what’s from your heart, but also you want to get out there and perform for this audience and the fans that vote and show up to shows and wait outside in the freezing cold to say hi.
“It’s why we do it.”
