The fashion world lost one of its most influential stars on Saturday. Legendary designer Azzedine Alaïa died at the age of 82 in Paris. He was dubbed the “king of cling” for his sculptural, formfitting, timeless dresses.

Rihanna shared a series of photos paying homage to the designer.

“You will live on forever,” she wrote in the caption.

The 29-year-old singer then shared several images of the famous red Alaïa gown she wore at the 2013 Grammy Music Awards.

“That one time we played in his archives for the Grammys,” she wrote. The red gown landed her on several best-dressed lists of the evening.

The diaphanous A-line Alaïa design with a long train was a flowing addition to the red carpet.

The dress made it to an exhibition dedicated to Alaïa at Palais Galliera, a fashion museum in Paris.

Other celebrities are taking to Twitter and Instagram to pay tribute to his influence on the fashion and entertainment worlds.

Lady Gaga shared a heartfelt message on her friendship with the designer.

Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey, and Madonna honored him as well.

“Simply the best! No one like you! It was an honor to know you. You will be missed so greatly! Rest In Peace Mr. Alaia,” Kardashian captioned the photo.

Carey wrote, “Devastated to hear about the passing of my friend Azzedine Alaïa. Mr. Alaïa was a genius and an incredibly kind man. Thank you for everything. R.I.P.”

“GOD Bless this Talented and Beautiful Soul,” Madonna wrote in a tribute to the late designer and friend, “I was so Lucky to know him. Work with him and laugh with him!! May he rest in Peace!”

Film director Ava DuVernay shared a tweet mourning the loss of Alaïa as well.

DuVernay wrote, “Hearing of the passing of Azzedine Alaia. A designer who embraced women of color as models and muses when others didn’t. May he rest in power and peace.”
