Bates Motel is a prequel TV show which tells the origin story of the famous villain Norman Bates, played by Freddie Highmore, and how his odd relationship with his mother and disturbing childhood turned him into the title 'psycho.' The show has enjoyed a successful four series, and will conclude after its fifth series next year in which Rihanna will star as motel guest Marion, who is murdered while taking a shower in the film's most iconic scene.

Fans were quick to praise the casting decision, with one writing: "My life couldn't be more complete in this moment in time!" in reaction to the news, while another wrote: "I fell off #BatesMotel after Season 2, but hiring Rihanna to play Marion Crane is how you GET ME TO COME BACK TO A SHOW!"

This is not the 28-year-old's first acting role, as the star has previously appeared opposite Alexander Skarsgard in Battleship in 2012, and has made several cameo roles in films including Bring It On and Annie.
