Rihanna's missing backup dancer Shirlene Quigley found safe

A dancer who vanished leaving behind a cryptic message has been found after Rihanna made an emotional appeal for information.

Shirlene Quigley has worked with a number of world famous celebrities including Beyonce and Missy Elliott.

Elliott wrote on Twitter that Ms Quigley was "safe & being treated" after disappearing at the weekend.

Police, who had issued an appeal for information over her disappearance, said she was being met by her family at an undisclosed location.

The 32-year old dancer, born in Los Angeles, was seen leaving her North Bergen residence in New Jersey by her landlord on Saturday afternoon.

Another person reportedly saw her near a Manhattan Bus Terminal on the early hours of Sunday.

Her car and mobile phone were found by New York City police.

Rihanna, an old friend of Ms Quigley, posted a video of the dancer on her Instagram page on Sunday, urging fans and friends who might know of her whereabouts to contact police.

"This beautiful soul, and former dancer of mine is MISSING!!!," the singer wrote.

"My heart aches thinking of how heavy this is on all who love her," she added.

Ms Quigley's father told NBC he became worried when his daughter missed their daily chat.

He said Ms Quigley also left a cryptic message with a friend before vanishing.

"Get ready, it's about to happen and I'm going to need you to sub for me," she said
