The childhood home of the Beatles drummer has sold at a bargain price after going under the hammer at an auction held at the Cavern Club.

The modest Victorian mid-terrace based in the Toxteth area of Liverpool managed to beat its asking price, selling for £70,000.

‘10 Admiral Grove’ was Ringo’s address for 20 years, moving there at aged three, he stayed with his mum Elsie Starkey until he wed in 1963.

Starr spent most of his formative years at the two-up, two-down property, even learning to play the drums and celebrating his 21st birthday there.

The 75-year-old paid homage to his home in his 2008 song Liverpool 8, and The Empress pub (which is situated at the end of Admiral Grove) appeared on the front of Ringo’s first solo album, Sentimental Journey.

Plus Dane Housing Association revealed that profits from the sale would be reinvested to improve other properties in the area.

Meanwhile, the winning bidder Jackie Holmes bought the house for £15,000 over the guide price, but she has a penchant for Beatles homes.

In 2014 Jackie managed to secure George Harrison’s former Speke childhood home.

In 2015 she was handed the keys to John Lennon’s mum’s former home, after bidding more than double what she splashed out on the Admiral Grove property.

Sharing her delight on acquiring another Beatles property and adding it to her impressive portfolio, Jackie told the Liverpool Echo: “I’ve bought a Beatles house every year since 2014. It’s not that I want to buy each Beatle’s former homes, the houses I have bought have special Beatles history.

“Ringo’s former house will be done up to a decent standard and I am looking for a tenant who will look after the house and appreciate its heritage.

“I love the 1950s and I love the Beatles – I’ve made many friends in Liverpool because of this and plan to move here any time soon.

“You wouldn’t be able to buy a garage in North London for what I paid tonight – I’m happy with the price I paid and will be celebrating with friends when I get back to London.”

It sounds like she might need a Ticket to Ride though…
