The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Morfydd Clark has spoken about her career, remarking that she is regularly cast in “creepy” roles.

The star, who plays Galadriel on the Prime Video show, rose to wider fame in 2019 for her part in the psychological horror Saint Maud, before roles as Mina Harker in BBC’s Dracula and the upcoming Starve Acre saw her reputation in the genre grow.

Speaking to The Guardian, Clark spoke about her habit of portraying eccentric and quirky characters, explaining: “It’s quite humbling to continually be cast as someone who is really freaky.

“I didn’t know that’s what I was giving off. And almost everything where I have a kiss in it, it’s like, ‘It’s a really sad kiss.’ But it’s interesting that I seem to have this slightly creepy, uncanny vibe about me that works in those type of things.

“Those characters are so fun. I feel really lucky that I’ve been able to play not just creepy but kind of gross female characters as well. Maud is really quite icky and also does pretty strange things, but you feel so free when you’re doing it.”

Clark, who also had a small role on His Dark Materials, spoke in more detail about her feelings towards her career, noting that she still harbours some doubts despite the surprise of her current success.

“It still feels very surreal. It’s a weird thing about being in your 30s as well. You obviously are always still developing as an actor, but you’re a bit like, ‘Oh, it happened. I guess I’m here now.’ Weekly [doubts], possibly. Still now, really. That’s just part of being an actor. No, I’m deeply neurotic and think it’s going to end tomorrow.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 is streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 premieres on Thursday, August 29.
