Rio Ferdinand's wife Kate has revealed the former footballer has a bad habit that sees him eating alone. Kate, who rose to fame on The Only Way Is Essex, revealed that Rio sounds 'like a washing machine' when he chews his food.

She admitted it was a 'big problem' in their house as her and their children cannot stand to be around the sports star when he is eating. Speaking on Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4 on Friday night, Kate, 33, said: "It's not just me, this is a big problem in our house."

Rio, 45, admitted: "I just struggle to eat now in the house. If we haven't got music on playing full blast you don't want to sit me and neither do the kids."

Kate revealed they had fought over the issue before, asking 'Do you think it might just be a you thing now? It's not an us thing?"

But Rio insisted he has never had any complaints before. "Noone's ever said it to me in my life before," he claimed as Kate said she thought they were 'just being nice'.

Rio continued: "I've been around all my teammates for years in close proximity. Noone's gone like 'Rio is the wildest eater'.

But Kate stuck to her guns, telling him 'It's like a washing machine'. The pair continued to bicker, with Rio insisting: "With the lads, that's the harshest environment, noone's every said anything'.

Kate told him his family 'were not making it up' and told him to 'evaluate the way you eat'. Rio then joked: "Maybe because your food is so nice, I can't control myself around it."

The couple began dating in 2016 and the ex-Manchester United footballer and reality star tied the knot three years later in 2019. The pair have since welcomed two children together - son Cree, aged two, and daughter Shae who was born in July last year.
