Rita Ora, the singer, TV personality and well-practised ambassador for fashion brands, has reportedly signed a £5 million deal to become the new face of Prada.

The luxury fashion house, which is helmed by Miuccia Prada and co-creative director Raf Simons, is celebrated for its sharp minimalist collections, nylon bags, and recognisable triangular logo. Following its latest campaigns with celebrities of the moment including Euphoria’s Hunter Schafer and Spiderman’s Tom Holland, the brand looks to a more permanent arrangement with their longer standing friend.

The news, first reported by The Sun, marks the blossoming of Prada and Ora’s relationship, which has grown in recent years. The brand is her go to for red carpet dressing, and she is a familiar face on the front row of their Milan Fashion Week catwalk shows.

In February this year, the ‘Let You Love Me’ singer confirmed this closeness, posting a picture after the AW22 show, huddiling in with designers Prada and Simons, alongside Kim Kardashian and ex-Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld. “I love my @prada family,” she wrote in the caption. “What a special show. Thank you for the inspiration and message you stand for.”

Their connection has been almost a decade in the making, with Ora supporting the brand at industry events since the 2010s. For the 2014 BRIT Awards, she stood with then boyfriend Calvin Harris in a statement sunshine yellow Prada gown with a bulky emerald gemstone trim. For the Grammy Awards the following year, she sparkled in a floor length, long sleeved, silver sequin dress, also by the brand.

And as Ora continued to rise to notoriety, the fashion moments became increasingly high profile. At 2018’s Met Gala, marking the opening of the ‘Heavenly Bodies’ exhibition, the Prada design team provided a black tulle dress with a head-turning, feet-long train and neon pink and green embellishments. It came accessorised with a Catholic-inspired, spiked headdress and sequin opera gloves.

This partnership continued at 2021’s Met Gala, which Ora tackled alongside new beau, the director Taika Waititi, in a crustal encrusted bralette and skirt, clearly branded with a front-facing Prada logo, plus the matching Cleo bag. She took to Instagram to show her appreciation, writing “Prada team thank you endlessly for this moment and everything you do for me.”

Despite the sparkling moments though, a formal deal between the parties still feels out of the blue. The former X Factor judge has a long string of fashion partnerships which have generally steered away from the luxury market.

In 2013, Ora’s first fashion deal was announced, after she signed a reported £500k contract to be the face of Madonna’s high street style Material Girl clothing line. Campaign shots saw Ora in London wearing body con, cat print dresses and branded beanies.

Since, her portfolio of brand associations has grown to include DKNY, Superga, Roberto Cavalli and Tezenis. She designed shoes for Giuseppe Zanotti and a 21 piece fashion line with Escada in 2019, and has shown a keen interest in athleisure too, working closely with Adidas Originals and JD Sports.

In 2018, she made the leap from brand ambassador to business owner when she launched her own fashion label, ‘Roara Republic’. Her desire to get more involved in fashion was clarified on Twitter when she announced the news: “I have been working secretly on this for a while with my team. I am so passionate about fashion so it’s such a pleasure and honour for me to be able to express that through my very own collection. It is meant to inspire you to be your best self, your own hero!”

Whether the new Prada deal will include Ora’s contribution on the design front or be a more traditional modelling arrangement is yet to be revealed. But one thing is clear: the devil will have to share, because Rita Ora wears Prada.
