The actor had previously tweeted about breaking his hand during filming for the season one finale, although he didn't refer to how it actually happened.

At the time, there was lot of speculation it was during filming the scene in which Archie saves Cheryl from drowning by smashing through meters of ice with his fist.

Indeed, KJ later confirmed this was the case in an interview with TV Line.

"That was a gnarly day of shooting, I'll tell you that much," he said.

"I wasn't really punching the ice, but I got a little bit too excited. I was punching a foam mat… [that was] sitting on the ice… It was cold, so I didn't really feel it.

"It wasn't until 20 minutes after that I realised I broke my hand. I didn't tell anyone."

Archie's hand might not be broken anymore, but his spirit might have several fractures in the forthcoming second season following the shooting of his dad Fred (Luke Perry).

Indeed, filming for Riverdale season 2 got underway this week, with Perry noticeably absent from the table read.

We worry...

Riverdale returns October 11 on The CW.
