We've already heard a fair amount from Riverdale's creators about what we can expect from series two of the hit teen show since the first series ended in a very dramatic fashion.

But it seems the creators aren't done yet, as the the team behind the CW drama have revealed a bit more about what's in store for Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) now that her brother's murder has finally been solved – so be warned, here lie spoilers.

"What happens to her in the finale is sort of the most elemental, primal thing," showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said to ComicBook.com.

"She's baptized in a river of ice and then she steps through and rises from the fires like a phoenix, and I think it absolutely changes her in that she has nothing to lose now."

He's talking, of course, about Cheryl's attempted suicide in the frozen lake where she last saw her late brother Jason – who just so happened to have been murdered by their father.

As if that's not enough to happen to the queen bee of Riverdale in one series, she then turned the tables on her family – and burnt down their family home.

"She's burned away what she thinks was her weakness - her love of Jason, her respect of her family. That's all been burnt away now," Aguirre-Sacasa explained.

He went on to compare season two Cheryl to Furiosa from Mad Max: Fury Road, adding: "She's almost like Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa. That's Cheryl, I think, on the other side of the finale.

"It's a harder, much darker, much more powerful character because her mom was quite cruel to her in season 1 - really cruel to her, and they withheld love from her."

So, we can expect an even darker Cheryl to be gracing our screens when Riverdale returns next year. How can she get darker than burning down her family home, you might wonder. Well, that's being kept under wraps for now.

Riverdale airs on The CW in the US and Netflix in the UK.
