The showrunner of Netflix's Riverdale is teasing more major deaths in the second season... and he's also seemingly ransoming fans, too.

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared a snap of the Riverdale characters, which has been scrawled over with red marker pen and the words: "Watch live Wednesday at 8pm on The CW and pray for the next victim."

He wrote alongside the photo: "#Riverdale fans, watch live tomorrow night on the #cw or someone in this picture dies."

Riverdale returned last Wednesday (October 11), with the second season premiere 'A Kiss Before Dying' already killing off a major character.

Meanwhile, the cast and crew have promised the show will get darker in season two, after Cole Sprouse previously compared the series to True Detective.

Aguirre-Sacasa and KJ Apa (who plays Archie Andrews) told Digital Spy that the second season will have "horror elements" and be more of a "thriller".

"We start a pretty aggressive, suspenseful, noir storyline that has definitive horror elements," Aguirre-Sacasa teased of what's in store.

"It very much is a suspense kind of thing... there's also some psychological horror in this season."

The cast have also teased the second season will be more of a "rush from start to finish" with every character getting "a really rich storyline to pursue".

Riverdale continues tonight (October 18) at 8pm ET on The CW. In the UK, Netflix streams each episode shortly after its US transmission.
