Yahoo News New Riverdale character may destroy Bughead in season 2
Riverdale's much-anticipated second season has recruited yet another cast member – and it looks like she's going to spell trouble for Betty and Jughead's relationship.
Coming straight from the Archie Comics, Toni Topaz will join season two when it airs in October.
She will be played by American actress Vanessa Morgan, who has previously had roles in The Shannara Chronicles, Finding Carter and Degrassi.
And showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has said her arrival could cause problems for everyone's favourite Riverdale couple Jughead and Betty.
Hmmm. As if they didn't have enough season two problems already...
"Toni Topaz is a character who was added on a little more recently in the comic books and she's always been very, very vivacious, exciting and a bit of a disrupter," Roberto told Entertainment Tonight.
"She very famously has as large an appetite for hamburgers as Jughead Jones.
"In the Riverdale version of this character, she's going to be a student at Southside High. She's going to be a member of the Southside Serpents and she's going to be a friend and confidant to Jughead Jones."
So what does her arrival mean for Jughead, who is now a Southside High student himself?
"Bughead is pretty strong, and pretty undeniable, and pretty epic, but you know even the most epic of romances has trouble – and trouble often comes as a third party," he added.
"So yes, it is conceivable that Toni will potentially test the limits of Bughead."
In the comics, Toni is bisexual, which Roberto has said will also be explored in the series.
So maybe it isn't Jughead wandering we should be worried about after all...
Riverdale returns to The CW on October 11.
