While the Archie comics are lovely and wholesome, The CW's TV adaptation Riverdale is full of sex and drugs and horrible people out to kill our teenaged protagonists.

And, as if Hiram Lodge and the Gargoyle King aren't enough, Archie Andrews is now getting another arch-enemy to deal with.

The CW has announced that actor Juan Riedinger is joining season 4 as Dodger, who is described as "a local thug who becomes a nemesis for Archie" (via TheWrap).

Riedinger has previously appeared in Netflix's Narcos (as cartel co-founder and Nazi-sympathiser Carlos Lehder) as well as the movie Jennifer's Body.

Season four of Riverdale will also feature a tribute for actor Luke Perry, who played Archie Andrews' dad Fred in the show. Perry sadly passed away at the age of 52 earlier this year, after suffering a stroke.

Talking about the "beautiful" tribute episode, Archie actor KJ Apa admitted that the return to season four was "a tough one".

"You have to go back a bit and access that emotion – that is not something that everyone feels comfortable doing," he said, before reassuring fans that "the writers absolutely nailed it".

Elsewhere, season 4 will also include a Halloween episode, which could see another character possibly lose their life.

Riverdale airs on The CW in the US and Netflix in the UK. Here's when season 4 will hit screens.
