Riverdale star apologises for fat-shaming tweets
Charles Melton has received a lot of backlash recently over resurfaced tweets that featured him fat-shaming women and children back in 2012.

While the tweets are old, the new backlash from them has caused Melton to put his Twitter on private, although he still continues to use his Instagram. He recently posted a photo about his new film project The Sun Is Also a Star, which also stars Yara Shahidi.
In a statement, Melton has apologised for the old tweets.
"I'm truly sorry for making inconsiderate comments several years ago and apologise to anyone I hurt," he said. "What I posted and said was immature, offensive and inappropriate. I am ashamed of how I acted and there is no excuse for that behaviour."
Melton has also deleted the old tweets, according to his followers on Twitter. He ended his statement by saying: "I'm striving to do better and will use this experience to grow, helping others to understand how these types of statements are completely unacceptable."
Melton is one of the newest members of the Riverdale cast. He joined in season 2 after Ross Butler left the role of Reggie Mantle and Melton was brought in to replace him. Some fans of the show are asking for the producers of Riverdale and The CW to take action against Melton for his tweets.
Instead of killing off Reggie Mantle in S3, let's just replace Charles Melton with Ross Butler again. The producers did it once. They can easily do it again. If the Riverdale team decides to ignore this issue, then they are no better. I will drop ALL OF THEM.

I am a huge fan of @CW_Riverdale. It is my all time favorite show, but as an overweight person I take offense to the comments Charles Melton made. It doesn't matter if he apologized. What's done is done. I believe he needs to be replaced. Bring back @RossButler

fat-shaming is fat-shaming and charles melton may have apologized, but he was 20/21 when he tweeted those tweets, surely anyone would be mature enough at 21 to know that the things he said were just plain cruel.

On this week's episode of Men Are Trash:
Charles Melton fat shaming people on Twitter.
Ross Butler where you at?- juliemsn (@juliemsn1) June 20, 2018
There are also other fans who believe that Melton shouldn't be receiving any backlash or punishment due to the age of the tweets.
Are people still blaming @_MELTON_ for tweets that he posted like 6/7 yrs ago? I mean, grow up you guys. I’m not saying that his attitude was the best bc it was not, but everyone commits mistakes and he’s not an exception. I’m sure he has regretted doin it. #charlesmelton

What's the point of bringing something that happened years ago. Like bringing up Charles Melton tweets about fat shaming that happened six years ago, six years !!!

Note to self.... If I ever become famous, delete twitter and make a new one! 🤦🏻♀️ why people digging up stuff from over 6yrs ago & going after people?! Like they were never once young & dumb! #CharlesMelton
