RNLI Helps Rescue Whale Off Blackpool Sands

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution aided rescuers in disentangling a 20-foot humpback whale off the coast of Blackpool Sands in Devon on March 22, after the animal had become enmeshed in whelk pot lines.

An RNLI Dart lifeboat carried divers from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue organisation to help haul the whale to the surface so the lines could be cut. The whale was freed after a three-hour rescue operation. Credit: RNLI Dart via Storyful
