A road is to remain closed while repairs continue to replace a burst water pipe in Sparkhill. A section of Stratford Road, close to Knowle Road, was flooded and the water supply disrupted nearly 900 homes when the 28-inch wide pipe broke around 6.30am on Friday (September 6).

Severn Trent, West Midlands Fire crews, the council and other agencies worked tirelessly to fully restore water supplies to homes and stop the floods. In an update on Sunday (September 8), the water company said they have now cleaned Stratford Road which was submerged under muddy water.

Meanwhile, Knowle Road will stay closed to traffic while repair work continues.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: "We want to thank the Sparkhill community once again for their continuing support. Stratford Road has been fully cleaned following the flooding in the area and is now reopened. For the safety of the public and our team, Knowle Road will remain closed as repairs to the main pipe are ongoing.

"We understand that road closures are an inconvenience, and we want to apologise for any disruption caused.”

Nine postcodes - B9, B10, B11, B13, B23, B27, B28, B91 and B92 - were affected by low water or no pressure. Water supplies were turned off as engineers attempted to fix the leak.

By Friday evening, the supply had been turned back on and Stratford Road re-opened as usual.
