Road taped off and person taken to hospital after car flips in crash

A person has been rushed to hospital after a crash which saw a car flipped onto its side in Lowton.

Emergency services were scrambled to reports of a crash on Newton Road at 7pm tonight (May 24). Fire crews said the crash involved one car. One person was taken to hospital. Their condition and gender is not known at this stage.

Newton Road was cordoned off and closed in both directions from Hesketh Meadow Lane to the Church Inn pub while investigations were carried out.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At 7pm this evening (Friday,May 24) firefighters were called to a reports of a road traffic collision on Newton Road, Lowton.

“Two fire engines from Atherton and Leigh fire stations, alongside the Technical Response Unit from Leigh, arrived quickly at the scene, which involved one car.

“Crews worked quickly to make the scene safe and helped one casualty, who was then conveyed to hospital via the care of colleagues at North West Ambulance Service.”

Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service have been contacted for more information.
