They are the bane of every motorist's life, but necessary to keep our roads up to scratch and traffic flowing freely once the work is done.
There are long term roadworks ongoing in and around the city, but there are also shorter term ones planned. Here is your definitive list to all the ongoing and upcoming roadworks in the area.
A63 - St James Street to Market Place: Major A63 improvement scheme – full infrastructure change. Lane and road closures until completion of scheme, May 1, 2025.

Anlaby Park Road North: Gas works. Two-way signals in place. Until October 29.
Anlaby Park Road South: Road being resurfaced between Tilbury Road and number 174, road closure in place. Until November 15.
Boulevard: Cable works. Multi-way signals in place. Until October 22.
Chanterlands Avenue: Digging of road crossing between numbers 193 and 154. Multi-way signals in place. Until October 25.
East Carr Road: Install new electric cable to supply new development site opposite numbers 33 to 23. Two-way signals in place. Until October 25.
Elm Street: Cable repairs. Multi-way signals in place. Until October 22.
Freightliner Road: Installation of new switches on the Dairycoates level crossing. Road closure in place between 11am and 9pm on October 20.
Hall Road: Replacing existing traffic signal assets near Danepark Road. Two-way signals in place. October 21 to 23.
Holderness Road: Water works. Lane closure. October 21-25.
Hotham Road South: Road closure for manhole construction. Until December 20.
Lothian Way: Utility repair and maintenance works. October 23.
Lowgate: New mains cable installation from the church to the junction of Scale Lane. Two-way signals in place. Until October 31.
Market Place: Installation of a new mains cable from the court to Liberty Lane. Multi-way signals in place. Until October 31.
Newland Avenue: Repair works. Multi-way signals in place. October 26-27.
New Bridge Road: Railway bridge steelwork and brickwork repairs. Two-way signals in place. October 28-29.
Pearson Park: Footway reconstruction and speed hump installation. Footpath and road closures. Until November 9.
Princes Avenue: Utility asset works opposite 121 Princes Avenue. Two-way signals in place. October 26-27.
Queens Road: New mains cable installation at the junction with Princes Avenue. Road closure in place. October 28 to November 15.
Rawling Way: Water works. Road closure. October 28 - November 4.
Scale Lane: Road closure in conjunction with works on Lowgate. Until October 31.
Spring Bank West: Level crossing maintenance works at the junction with Walton Street. Road closure. 10pm to 6am only. Until October 21.
Thorpepark Road: To connect two mains to ensure pressures are maintained over winter months. Road closure in place. October 26 to November 4.
Welwyn Park Avenue: Installation of road hump. Road closure. October 28.
Wyke Street: Asset replacement from Hedon Road to the junction of Raven Street. Multi-way signals in place. Until October 29.
